East Texas Rescue Mission of Tyler provides the following services:
- Food
- Clothing
- Emergency Shelter
- One year residential program
- One-on-one counseling
- Nightly chapel services
Today, we are sheltering over 95 men per night. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, which is open to the community, and serving over 350 meals per day. We believe in not only providing for their basic needs, but also to show them the love of Jesus Christ, allowing Him to heal the homeless and broken from the inside out.
“THE BRIDGE” DISCIPLESHIP/RECOVERY PROGRAM
We offer a one year Biblically based program, called “The Bridge”, allowing men who want to break the cycle of homelessness to have an opportunity to work on changing their lives. This program involves daily Bible studies, daily chore assignments, employment preparation, money management, and any other classes that address the needs of the individual. There is no cost for this service.
Below are two testimonies of individuals who are going through this amazing program:
James - “My education only takes me through the ninth grade. I quit school because of family problems. Shortly after joining The Bridge, I began studying for my GED and volunteers would come in to help. It is such a great opportunity for me to be able to study the Bible AND pursue my GED. I also have been baptized and gotten closer to God since coming on the program. There is still a lot in my life I want to see changed, but I know with God’s help, I will be able to move forward.”
Greig – “I came to East Texas Rescue Mission shortly after it opened in October of 2008. I joined The Bridge discipleship/recovery program to try and get my life back under my control and to quit using drugs and alcohol. Now, I am attending Tyler Junior College and working towards a degree in social services in order to help other people in my situation. I am looking forward to getting a full time job that will pay a decent salary and be able to afford to live on my own again. “
